There are a few voices in music history that give me chills every time I hear them. Elvis, Johnny Cash, Sam Cooke, Lady Day, and Etta James. I’d Rather Go Blind is Etta’s signature song—like a good soul song, it only has two chords. One less than a punk band and two less than the Ramones. It’s true artistry—I wanted to honor it simply because I can honor it.
